Upgrade MacOS via the Berklee Software App
In this job aid
The following steps will guide you through upgrading your Mac’s operating system to a newer version using the Berklee Software app.
Your images might differ from those presented here. However, the instructions will apply for all Berklee MacOS upgrades.
Before Getting Started
If your computer is on an OS earlier than macOS 10.14 Mojave, ensure your data is backed up via Time Machine. If needed, you can view Apple’s steps for this.
Do not proceed to the instructions below until you have setup Time Machine or confirmed your device is on a OS newer than macOS 10.14 Mojave.
Instructions
Once you’ve confirmed that your files are securely backed up, you are ready to upgrade your operating system. It is a good idea to plug your laptop in while completing the steps below.
Step 1: Access the Download in Berklee Software
Open Finder and select the Applications tab
Select Berklee Software.
Log in using your OnePass Username (without @berklee.edu) and Password.
On the first Berklee Software screen, select Download macOS.
Step 2: Complete Download in Apple App Store
After being redirected to the App Store, select GET.
Sign in with an Apple ID (either your personal one or one you created for Berklee).
If you do not have an Apple ID, create one using Apple’s steps.
Within the next prompt, click Download.
Once downloading completes, press Continue.
Step 3: Complete Agreement and Finalize Installation
Once prompted, read the Software License Agreement and click Agree then Next
On the next pop-up, log in with your laptop password, and press Install.
Your mac will then prompt you to restart your device.
The restart during installation typically takes about an hour, and the laptop may restart multiple times. Allow it to take as long as it needs, and do not attempt to force restart the computer. This can corrupt the reboot and require you to recover your operating system.
If you encounter any issues throughout this process, you can reach out to the Service Desk at 2238@berklee.edu.
